We recommend cushions with ties for piano benches. All of our cushions come with three sets of ties—on the sides and in the center—to securely fasten the cushion in place. While non-slip backing can help in casual settings, it often slips when a pianist moves frequently while playing. Ties provide better stability, especially during longer or more active practice sessions. We do not carry cushions that have the non-slip backing, as they just don't work for pianists.
The other advantage of having a cushion wish ties, is that it is reversible, and you can use either side of the cushion.

Piano bench cushions are available in a number of different thickness options: 1", 1.5", 2", 2.5" and 3". Note the thicker the cushion, the higher you will raised. We recommend using your current bench, or a chair with books stacked on it, and finding your desired playing height. This can help give you a good idea of how much height you can add.
You will sink down into a cushion. It depends on the person and their build, but depending on the cushion--we would estimate the average person sinks approximately 1/4" into the cushion.

Our cushions are available in a range of standard sizes to fit most piano benches. We also offer flexibility in sizing—many customers find that even if their bench is slightly longer or shorter by an inch, our cushions still work well thanks to their soft edges and tie-down design.
In general, if you are in between sizes, it looks a little better to go with a slightly larger cushion than a smaller one. For example, if your piano bench measures 14" x 29", the 14" x 30" cushion would look better than the 14" x 28".
